Wes Anderson’s style is often critiqued or said to be easily replicated, but one can always tell when it doesn’t have Anderson’s signature touch to the framing, colours or set design. Wes Anderson is my favourite film director and today I would like to talk about the commercials he has directed.

Wes has directed many commercials for the likes of Ikea, American Express, Prada, Mont Blanc and others. The first commercial of his I have come across was his ad for American Express which is set on the set of a fictional movie he is directing. Wes yells cut, talks to the actors in the film played by Jason Schwartzman, Waris Ahluwaria and Roman Coppola and continues to walk through the set answering questions and making decisions to eventually pay for a helicopter shot with his Amex.

Yes, maybe I am a bit biased, but I feel that this is a perfect way to execute a commercial. It is fun seeing Anderson play within the time restrictions of a conventional ad (although some do break 2 minutes) and if you haven’t already, I certainly recommend watching them.
